High metabolite concentrations in portal venous blood as a possible mechanism for microbiota effects on the immune system and Western diseases

We present that the intestine bacterial metabolites, brief chain fatty acids (SCFAs), are current at exceptionally excessive concentrations within the portal venous circulation, significantly small blood vessels that emanate from colonic mucosa. Possible, many different metabolites can be current at excessive concentrations. Herein we suggest a mannequin for immune conditioning, whereby metabolites akin to butyrate have an effect on immune cells as they cross by means of the portal venous system. Deficiency of SCFAs would result in proinflammatory immune cell skewing by means of inadequate G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, or lack of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibition.
